For example, one fairly basic classification scheme is as follows:

Equity Non-US common
Equity Non-US preferred
Equity US convertible preferred
Equity Non-US convertible preferred
Equity Other
Equity US Mutual Fund
Equity US Commingled Fund
Fixed Income US Treasury
Fixed Income US Agency
Fixed Income US Municipal
Fixed Income US Corporate
Fixed Income US ABS
Fixed Income US MBS-POOL
Fixed Income US MBS-CMO
Fixed Income US MMKT
Fixed Income US Other
Fixed Income Non-US Sovereign
Fixed Income Non-US Corporate
Fixed Income Non-US Other

However, while such a classification scheme may be useful for some of your applications, it may not be sufficient for all, perhaps you need more granularity or a completely different structure for some other application. That's fine with us, we can provide you with asset classification for multiple schemes.

Custom Security Classification Codes [CSCC]
SHG has the ability to develop and provide custom security classification codes for anyone running an investment reporting system. Every user of a portfolio accounting or investment reporting system has unique analysis and/or reporting needs which require investment securities to be classified in specific ways. Many of these classifications are not available through the major data providers and must be assigned manually on an item by item basis. SHG can automate this process and simply provide the usable results to those who need need. Typically, SHG will receive daily/weekly/monthly/etc. lists of investment holdings and create and return the required data according to your custom needs, in your time frame.
