Security Identifiers
There are several standard identifiers for securities,
depending on their asset category and where they originate.
Some of the most common include:
- CUSIP
- WI-CUSIP
- ISIN
- SEDOL
- CEDEL
- Ticker Symbol
However, in addition to these standard identifiers
almost every broker or custodian has their own internal
symbol. When you receive security data from these sources,
sometimes you'll receive one identifier type for one
security and another for something else, or sometimes
no identifier. The Security Master Service can translate
between all these identifiers and more. We can create
custom maps to custodians, brokers and other data sources.
We can research securities with no ID present.
Our system works by assigning a unique internal identifier
to every security that comes through the system. This
allows us to track securities accurately, particularly
when an Identifier changes, such as the case with a
WI (When Issued) ID with CUSIPs.
